What is Contoura Vision?
Contoura Vision is an advanced form of LASIK known as topography-guided laser vision correction. Unlike conventional LASIK, which corrects only your spectacle number (spherical and cylindrical power), Contoura also treats subtle irregularities on the corneal surface, known as higher-order aberrations.
Using highly detailed corneal mapping, this technology creates a customised treatment plan unique to each eye. The result is sharper, clearer, and more natural quality of vision — often with reduced dependence on glasses or contact lenses.
Who is Eligible for Contoura Vision?
You may be a suitable candidate if you:
- Are 18 years or older
- Have had stable eye power for at least one year
- Have healthy corneas with adequate thickness
- Do not have keratoconus or progressive corneal disorders
- Do not have active eye infections or severe uncontrolled dry eye
- Are not pregnant or breastfeeding
- Do not have uncontrolled systemic conditions such as diabetes or autoimmune disease
Final eligibility is determined only after a comprehensive eye examination and detailed corneal evaluation.
Topography-Guided LASIK (Contoura Vision) – FDA-approved technology
Contoura with Femto LASIK – Where the corneal flap is created using a femtosecond laser (bladeless technique)
Contoura for Irregular Astigmatism – In selected cases where corneal surface irregularity is present
Corrects both refractive error and corneal surface irregularities
Quick visual recovery for most patients
May provide sharper visual clarity and improved contrast sensitivity
High precision with advanced eye-tracking technology
Personalised treatment based on detailed corneal mapping
How Contoura Vision Works
The procedure begins with an advanced corneal topography scan that captures thousands of elevation points from the corneal surface. These measurements detect refractive errors and microscopic irregularities that may affect visual quality.
Specialised planning software then creates a customised laser treatment profile. During the procedure:
- A thin corneal flap is created (using either a microkeratome or femtosecond laser).
- An excimer laser reshapes the cornea according to the personalised treatment plan.
- The flap is repositioned without stitches.
The entire procedure typically takes 10–15 minutes for both eyes and is performed under topical (drop) anaesthesia.

Clear Answers for Better Vision
What is Contoura Vision?
Contoura Vision is the latest advancement in laser vision correction. While standard LASIK only corrects your spectacle power, Contoura Vision is Topography-Guided, meaning it maps 22,000 unique elevation points on your cornea to smooth out microscopic irregularities. This results in vision that is often sharper than what you achieved with glasses or contacts.
How is Contoura Vision different from standard LASIK?
Standard LASIK treats the eye based on your glasses prescription. Contoura Vision goes beyond that by treating the unique “texture” of your cornea. Think of it as a “tailor-made suit” versus an “off-the-rack” suit. It doesn’t just correct your power; it optimizes the entire optical surface of your eye.
What are the benefits of choosing Contoura Vision at ASG?
Contoura Vision offers several advantages over traditional laser surgeries:
Superior Clarity: Many patients achieve vision better than 6/6.
Reduced Glare: Significant reduction in night-driving issues and halos.
Better Contrast: Improved sensitivity to light and textures.
Faster Recovery: Minimal tissue disruption leads to rapid healing.
Who is the ideal candidate for Contoura Vision?
If you are over 18, have a stable prescription for a year, and want the highest quality of vision possible, you are likely a candidate. It is especially beneficial for people who drive frequently at night or professionals who require high-definition sight (like pilots or photographers).
Is the procedure painful?
No. Like all our refractive procedures, Contoura Vision is performed using numbing eye drops. You will remain awake and comfortable throughout the process, which takes approximately 10–15 minutes for both eyes.
Does Contoura Vision help with night driving issues?
Yes. One of the primary reasons patients choose Contoura Vision at ASG is to reduce “Abberations.” By smoothing the cornea’s unique irregularities, Contoura significantly reduces the “starburst” and “halo” effects often associated with older LASIK technologies.
How soon can I return to work?
Most patients can resume light work, such as using a computer or reading, within 24 to 48 hours. We recommend avoiding heavy exercise or swimming for at least two weeks to ensure the eye heals perfectly.
Is Contoura Vision safe?
Contoura Vision is US-FDA approved and is widely considered the “Gold Standard” in laser vision correction. At ASG, we use the most advanced diagnostic suite to ensure your eye is perfectly suited for the procedure before we begin.
Will I ever need glasses again after Contoura Vision?
Contoura Vision permanently reshapes the cornea to correct myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. While it corrects your current vision, it does not stop the natural aging process of the eye (Presbyopia), which may require reading glasses after age 40.
Why should I get Contoura Vision at ASG Eye Hospital?
Contoura Vision requires highly specialized diagnostic equipment and surgical expertise. ASG Eye Hospital utilizes the WaveLight Allegro Topolyzer, which creates the precise corneal map needed for this surgery. Our surgeons are among the most experienced in India for topography-guided corrections.
